Dwyane Wade Hosts Fatherhood Round Table

Miami Heat golden boy Dwyane Wade started off his NBA All-Star Weekend by reaching out to his fellow dads and presenting a basketball court to a school — all while looking super fly in a double-breasted Versace suit.

Friday morning Wade led a Fatherhood Heroes roundtable discussion on Friday at Orlando City Hall, spreading a message to fathers about the importance of being involved in their children’s lives. For the roundtable, part of a series in President Barack Obama’s Fatherhood & Mentoring Initiative, Wade was joined by White House official Joshua Dubois, special assistant to the president and executive director of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships.

Wade was asked to join Obama’s fatherhood task force in 2011, shortly after he gained sole custody of his two sons following a long custody battle with his now ex-wife Siohvaughn Wade.

In a blog for Huffington Post in June 2010, he wrote, “I’ve never been at a loss for nicknames. There’s D-Wade and Flash. I love them both, but to be honest, no label sounds as good to me as Daddy.”

Afterward, he headed to Tangelo Park Elementary School to lead a “Work Hard, Play Hard” rally and unveil new basketball courts. Saturday, he plans to attend a fundraiser for Tangelo Park Program, an educational initiative, where Grammy Award-winning artist Estelle is slated to perform.
