Wade scores 19 as U.S. tops Angola

Dwyane Wade led the U.S. basketball team to a 97-76 victory over Angola today, scoring 19 points as the Americans improved to 2-0 in group play.

Wade, the former Marquette star and guard for the Miami Heat, sank 6 of 8 shots from the field and 5 of 7 free throws. Dwight Howard added 14 points, and LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony each had 12 for the U.S.

Milwaukee Bucks guard Michael Redd played 14 minutes in a reserve role and scored two points on 1-of-4 shooting.

The U.S. next will play Greece at 7 a.m. Thursday (Milwaukee time). Greece defeated the U.S. in the semifinals of the 2006 World Championships, forcing the Americans to settle for the bronze medal.

"It's been circled on my calendar for a while now," Anthony said. "Since we left Japan (at the worlds) it's been circled on my calendar."
